Weekly Wisdom

Kathy Condon, Career Facilitator and author of Weekly WisdomKathy's reknowned ezine, Weekly Wisdom, offers insights and thought-provoking comments about current events, business communications and career issues. It's quick, inspiring and relevant. You can read two samples below and subscribe here.

Sample 1

"It's too big a world to be in competition with everyone. The only person who I have to be better than is myself."
Col. Sherman Potter

Particularly in this time when people are looking for jobs, they compare their skills and experience with others. The truth is there is no one just like you. You have three innate talents and the goal is to use and develop your talents to the best of your ability. When you do, watch your career soar.

Wouldn't it be better to spend your energy improving your talents instead of comparing yourself to others?

Sample 2

"This telephone has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us."
Western Union internal memo - 1876

Hmmmm. Even though the memo did not say "never" it was pretty close to it. It appears we not only need to be careful what we say about new inventions/ideas, we need to be careful about putting it in writing. Be open to change.

Who would have dreamed a telephone would be sending me, via the internet, pictures of my daughter's new house being built in Belgium?
